Does today's youth have any idea what "The American Dream" is? Sure, they grow up hearing about it...I grew up hearing about it. Will I or the vast majority of Americans ever live the American Dream?Doubtful. In the words of James Adams,
"The American Dream is that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for every man, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement...a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position." Was watching Frontline on PBS on Monday night. Doom and gloom about the state of the economy and the large number of folks effected by it. Yet the numbers of new restaurants opening is at an all time high? Makes you wonder if some folks are throwing themselves into the deep end to see if things will workout better for them. As an experienced ex restaurant owner I had seen so many cases of folks looking from outside in and imagining all the money THEY could have been making....You could see the envy in their face.....Look at this guy, putting a little sauce and cheese on the pizza and making a ton of money. What they failed to see was the many 14+ hours that I had to work daily to keep the gears turning. Before taking a chance remember the old saying "grass always seems greener when it is not yours". I am not trying to put you off your dreams; it is in my interest to see new businesses popping up everywhere. I do however stronlgly suggest an educated, calculated move rather than jumping into the hole to find out how deep it is.
